Two Nassau County teams met for the Girls U-12 Arch Cup Gold title, and extra time was needed to determine a winner.
In the end, the Rockville Centre Chargers outlasted the Hewlett/Lawrence Riptide 2-1 in overtime. The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) championship game was played on Saturday, June 3, at Stringham Park in LaGrange. Kate Price scored both Rockville Centre goals.
“We were down 1-0 in a very even game and we equalized, said Colin Willox, Rockville Centre’s head coach. “It was a very balanced, competitive match.”
The Chargers also received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a US Soccer Life Member who died in 2016, started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980 that would later expand to Eastern New York, nationally and then to China and Ireland.
