Westbury native Carlo Ritaccio has been named a co-captain of Akron University’s men’s soccer team for the 2019 season.

Now in his sophomore season, the W.T. Clarke High School graduate is one of four co-captains for the Zips. Joining Ritaccio as co-captains are Daniel Strachan, David Egbo and Skye Harter.

Ritaccio enjoyed a strong freshman campaign starting all 22 matches in which he appeared earning second-team All-Mid-American Conference honors. He was also named National Freshman of the Year by Top Drawer Soccer and was named to the Freshman Best XI first team by Top Drawer soccer.

Among the highlights of his freshman season was a two-goal performance in a 3-1 Akron win over No. 12 West Virginia in the semi-finals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. He also scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the Zips 5-1 win over No. 4 Michigan State in the semi-finals of the College Cup.

Ritaccio and his Akron teammates start the season as the No. 3 ranked team in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.
