Despite dominating possession throughout the match, the New York Red Bulls had to settle for a 2-2 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Playing the second of three matches over seven days at Red Bull Arena Wednesday night, New York overcame an early one-goal deficit and would take a 2-1 lead. But a Whitecaps converted penalty kick in the 61st minute would level the match.

Vancouver would take the lead against the run of play when Scott Sutter scored in the 29th minute. The Red Bulls would even the match 12 minutes later when Brian White’s header would beat Whitecaps keeper Zac MacMath.

Ten minutes into the second half, New York would take the lead with some help from the away side. A Brian White cross into the six-yard box was redirected by Vancouver’s Andy Rose for an own goal.

But the Red Bulls lead would be short-lived. New York defender Sean Nealis was whistled for handling in the box and Fredy Montero converted the penalty kick to knot the game at two.

Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles recorded a season-high five saves to help secure the draw.

New York will have another quick turnaround as they travel to face FC Cincinnati on Saturday, May 25. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
