A day after being named East Coast Conference (ECC) Rookie of the Year, Lukas Ostermann had a goal and assist to lead LIU Post to a 3-0 win over the University of the District of Columbia.
With the win, the Pioneers capture their third-consecutive ECC men’s soccer championship. LIU Post (16-0-2, 8-0-1 ECC) advance to the NCAA Championship Tournament for the seventh-straight season.
Ostermann opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he headed a cross from Nico Anderson for his 16th goal of the season. Anderson would later score a goal of his own in the 29th minute to give LIU Post a 2-0 lead when he wired a shot far post from the right-side.
Vittorio Argeri capped off the scoring in the first half when he pounced on a rebound from the shot of Ostermann and finished into an open net for the 3-0 advantage.
Trying to break the shoutout, the Firebirds outshot LIU Post 8-4 in the second half. An organized backline led by Johan Maurtizson held UDC scoreless to earn LIU Post’s third-straight championship.
LIU Post’s keeper Oliver Hessner Hansen made seven saves in the match and posted his seventh clean sheet of the season.
