Onumonu Joins Sky Blue In Deal With Reign FC

Sky Blue FC ended a busy week of roster moves with another deal, acquiring forward Ifeoma Onumonu from Reign FC.

A graduate of the University of California-Berkley, Onumonu joins Sky Blue in exchange for the rights to Julia Ashley.

In 2019, Onumonu made 21 appearances (eight starts) for Reign FC with three goals and one assist in 1,035 minutes of action.

The native of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, was selected eighth overall by the Boston Breakers in the 2017 NWSL College Draft and appeared in 18 matches (three starts) her rookie season, notching one assist. Selected by the Portland Thorns in the 2018 NWSL Dispersal Draft, she appeared in eight matches (three starts). 

In college, Onumonu played in 82 matches for the Golden Bears, finishing with 33 goals and 17 assists and earned All-Pac First Team honors in 2012 and 2016. 

Onumonu is the latest in a string of deals by Sky Blue General Manager Alyse LaHue. The wheeling and dealing GM acquired Margaret “Midge” Purce from the Portland Thorns, McCall Zerboni from the North Carolina Courage and Mallory Pugh from the Washington Spirit.
