NYIT Recap: Soccer Teams Get Only One Win In Four Matches

The NYIT men’s and women’s team combined had four home matches this past week but could pull out only one win by the men’s side against Molloy.

Men’s Soccer (7-4-1)

Wednesday, October 10 — at President’s Stadium
Molloy 1
Recap: Xavi Senlik’s (Ronkonkoma, Deer Park High School) hat trick, the first of his career, propelled NYIT past its Long Island rival at home. Bernd Schlüter scored his team-high 10th goal of the season to close out the scoring for the Bears.

Saturday, October 13 — at President’s Stadium
Bridgeport 2
Recap: Bernd Schlüter scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season in the 58th minute to bring NYIT level, but the Bears would ultimately come up a goal short vs. Bridgeport.

Women’s Soccer (8-4-1)

Wednesday, October 10 — President’s Stadium
LIU Post 2
Recap: An 86th-minute goal by freshman Hannah Franco of Islip tied the game at two, which would prove to be the final score following overtime. Casey Luongo of Center Moriches opened the scoring for the Bears in the 70th minute, which gave NYIT a 1-0 lead. LIU Post would score in the 83rd and 85th minutes to grab the lead.

Saturday, October 13 — at President’s Stadium
Bridgeport 3
Recap: Two goals from Casey Luongo in the first half gave NYIT a 2-1 that they took to halftime. But Bridgeport battled back with two second-half goals for the win.
