Key Points: The third and final match of the regular season between New York City and New York Red Bulls was not only big from the standpoint of local bragging rights, but also for points in the Eastern Conference playoff race. While the host Red Bulls largely dominated play throughout the 90 minutes, the teams each walked off the pitch in Harrison, N.J. with a point. NYCFC’s goal in the 56th minute came against the run of play as the Citizens strung together a series of passes that ended with David Villa finding Maxi Moralez who neatly slotted home a left foot shot. The Red Bulls leveled 14 minutes later after City defender RJ Allen was called for a foul in the box.

Quotable:
NYCFC Head Coach Patrick Vieira…
“I think if we look at the first half and we look at the position that they had, the only time they hit the post was when Alex (Ring) was out of the field. But I will take the points. And I’m really happy with the points because we played against a really good team who make it really difficult for us. So I’m happy with the points.

What’s next:
New York City will return to Yankee Stadium on September 6 to host Sporting Kansas City. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Red Bulls will head to Texas to face FC Dallas on Saturday, September 2. Game time is 9 p.m.
