New York City FC (NYCFC) has exercised the options on four players and declined options on seven others as the team begins making roster preparations for the 2019 season.
Daniel Bedoya, Jeff Caldwell, Sebastien Ibeagha and Brad Stuver each had their options exercised for the coming season. In addition, the Major League Soccer side has activated Valentin Castellanos’ option to purchase from Club Atletico Torque. As a result, the Argentine forward joins New York City on a permanent basis.
The seven players who had the options declined by the club are Eloi Amagat, Kwame Awuah, Maxime Chanot, Tommy McNamara, Ebenezer Ofori, Andre Rawls and Rodney Wallace. As previously announced, David Villa is leaving the club.
Yangel Herrera and Saad Abdul-Salaam will be out of contract on December 31. NYCFC has extended an offer to Abdul-Salaam, which allows the club to retain his right of first refusal.
“While we continue to have discussions with a number of these players ahead of the 2019 season, we would like to sincerely thank all the players for their contributions to the club, especially Tommy McNamara who has been here since the very beginning,” said Claudio Reyna, NYCFC’s Sporting Director. “Saying goodbye is always difficult but we wish each of them the very best in their careers.”
The following NYCFC players are under contract for the 2019 season:
