NY Surf Adds Three To Coaching Ranks

New York Surf has expanded its coaching ranks with the addition of three new members that each bring a variety of coaching experience to the club.

Joining Surf is Chris Smith, Michael Caputo and Kelsey Yam.

“We are excited to announce new members to our coaching leadership for the 2019-20 season,” said Matt Popoli, president of New York Surf. “Since 2016, one of our guiding principles has been to build the highest quality coaching staff that are focused on the mission of player development. Chris, Mike and Kelsey will be essential to this continued goal.”

Smith will serve as Surf’s director of coaching and will be the head coach of the Girls 2007 Academy Blue team. He is a national scout with the United States Soccer Development Academy Program, holds a USSF National “A” license and is a former head coach at Mercy College.

Caputo joins Surf as its assistant director of coaching and will coach the girls 2001 Academy team. He formerly was a head coach at the New York Institute of Technology, former head coach at the Girls Development Academy and former head of the girls ENCL program.

Yam will serve as head coach of the girls 2004 Academy Blue team. She was recently named an assistant coach for Hofstra’s women’s soccer team. Previously, she served as head coach at Clarkson University and played in the WPSL with the Albany Alleycats.
