At the Rockville Centre Sports Complex, NYIT’s women’s team defeated the Lions 1-0. The Bears’ men’s team went extra-time to net its 3-2 over Molloy.
On the women’s side, sophomore Kayla Multer of Islip scored her first collegiate goal in the 72nd minute — and the game’s only goal — to give New York Tech the win. Multer’s goal came off a corner kick from Baldwin’s Maggie Thibault.
“Maggie had a perfect corner,” Multer said. “I was just in the right spot at the right time.”
While Molloy (5-2-1, 1-1-0 ECC) outshot New York Tech (1-2-2, 1-0-0 ECC) 12-11, the Bears had seven shots on goal to the Lions’ five. NYIT keeper Nicole Genis made five saves to earn the win and first clean sheet of the season.
“It felt good to help the team get the first win,” Genis said. “Hopefully we’ll build on it to keep getting wins.”
On the men’s side, Che Richards buried a shot 93 seconds into overtime as New York Tech defeated host Molloy 3-2 at the Rockville Centre Sports Complex.
Simon-Peter Omooba had forced the extra period with the tying goal in the 83rd minute. The goal was Omooba’s East Coast Conference-leading seventh goal of the season.
The Bears improved to 3-5 overall at 2-0 in the ECC. Molloy fell to 3-2-1 over and 0-1-0 in the ECC.
“I think we finally showed we can come back in games,” said Carlos Delcid, NYIT’s head coach. “We had some leadership on the field.”
Against Molloy, Bernd Schlüter returned after missing five matches and Xavi Senlik returned after missing four games due to injury. Senlik opened the match’s scoring in the 19th minute.
