Three nights after its five-goal win over the Carolina Railhawks, the New York Cosmos kept their home winning streak going with a 3-0 victory over Indy Eleven.

The victory moves New York three points ahead of FC Edmonton in the North American Soccer League’s Fall Standings, although the Canadian side has two games in hand.

“[Indy] have been on a good path, and for us to win at home against them is an important win,” said Giovanni Savarese, Cosmos head coach. “These are three very important points for us to continue down the path that we have set forth.”

The Cosmos got their offense going early as Ruben Bover and Jairo Arrieta combined to give New York a 1-0 lead. As Arieta held the ball at the top of the Indy Eleven box, Bover made a run and took Arieta’s pass and hit the bottom right corner to beat goalkeeper Jon Busch in the eighth minute for his second goal of the season.

Danny Szetela In the 17th minute would earn another scoring opportunity for New York, drawing a foul inside the right edge of the penalty area. Juan Arango would convert from the spot to give the Cosmos a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Indy Eleven would go down to 10 men after Cory Miller was red carded after a challenge on New York’s David Diosa inside the box. But Arango would fail to convert, missing the shot high.

However, Arango would make amends in the 73rd minute as he headed home a cross from Bover to give the Cosmos a 3-0 lead.

Jimmy Maurer made four saves to earn the clean sheet.
