Just three days after a disappointing 2-1 home loss to the Montreal Impact, the Red Bulls had a solid bounce-back effort to get its first road win of the season. Dallas lost for the first time at home this season.
Playing its third match in eight days, Head Coach Chris Armas made 10 changes to the lineup from Wednesday’s match. Amro Tarek was the only constant in the Starting XI.
Cristian Casseres Jr. opened the scoring for New York in the 12th minute, shooting low through traffic from the top of the box and beating Dallas keeper Jesse Gonzalez for his second goal of the season.
Nealis opened his MLS account as his 58th-minute goal gave the Red Bulls a lead it would not relinquish. The 2019 draft pick was credited with the goal after deflecting a shot from Michael Amir Murillo.
Brian White added an insurance goal, his second of the season, in the 85th minute off of a feed from Omir Fernandez.
Ryan Meara got the start in goal for New York and wore the captain’s armband in his first MLS appearance since June 2018. He made five saves.
The Red Bulls return home to host Atlanta United FC on Sunday, May 19, in a rematch of the 2018 Eastern Conference Finals. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET.
