Molloy College junior Dana Poetzsch was named the United Soccer Coaches Division II Women’s Player of the Week.

The national honor comes following a week in which the Hicksville native had 13 points. In a 4-0 win over Caldwell on September 18, Poetzsch scored twice and added an assist. Three days later, she had a hat-trick and two assists in a 12-0 win in over Lincoln. She was also named the East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Through Molloy’s first six games of the season, Poetzsch has eight goals and three assists in helping the Lions to a 4-1-1 start.

Poetzsch said she was informed of her weekly national award by one of Molloy’s trainers during practice on Tuesday.

“My trainer walks up to me and randomly said ‘congratulations Dana’ to which I responded ‘congratulations for what?’ and she told me about my award,” she said. “I was so shocked and filled with excitement. It took me a minute or two to process it but I was overly excited about it.”

During her two-plus seasons at Molloy, Poetzsch has been been a fixture on the pitch appearing in 41 games, to date, with 31 goals and seven assists.

As a freshman, she scored 16 goals, was East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year and was named to the All-Conference First Team. She was also named to the D2CCA All-East Region Second Team. In her sophomore season, she led the Lions with seven goals and 16 points.
