The Molloy College women’s soccer team has added five players for the 2019 season, with each of the signees hailing from Long Island.
Joining the Lions will be Eleni Sofroniou of Half Hollow Hills East, Smithtown West’s Lindsey McCarthy, Joanna Mauceri from New Hyde Park, Sarah Tappeto from Calhoun High School and Brenna Glover from Island Trees.
“I am really excited with the caliber of athlete joining our program in 2019,” said Steve Price, the team’s head coach. “We have recruited players who can play multiple positions, and I expect all of them to be challenging for starting spots. Combined with a strong returning roster, we will be in a position to make a challenge in the ECC.”
Sofroniou was a four-year varsity starter with Half Hollow Hills East and earned All-County and All-Conference honors twice. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.
McCarthy was a two-year starter at Smithtown West and was named All-Division. With the Bulls, she scored two goals in 2018 and helped West win the Suffolk County and Long Island titles.
Mauceri was chosen All-Class her freshman and senior seasons at New Hyde Park High School and All-Conference her junior year. She is a member of the Academic and Business Honor Society.
Tappeto, a midfielder earned All-County honors and also was named to the All-Conference track and lacrosse teams at Calhoun. The Merrick native, who played varsity for four seasons, was a member of the National, Business, and Italian Honor Societies.
Glover was a four-year varsity athlete at Island Trees and was the team captain for two seasons. She earned All-County honors and is a member of the Foreign Language Honor Society.</span
