Several published reports Wednesday said that the young defenseman and American international was on the brink of signing a deal with Premier League side Chelsea. The Daily Mail reported the transfer fee to be in the neighborhood of $5 million.
Throughout January, Miazga has been camp with the United States Men’s National Team in training ahead of friendlies with Iceland on January 31 and Canada on February 5. However, reports indicated that he left camp and is headed to England to undergo a medical before joining his new club.
A member of the Red Bulls family since joining the club’s academy in 2009, he signed a homegrown player contract in 2013 at the age of 17. For the U.S., Miazga has played at several levels including U18, U20 and U23. He debuted with the senior team this past November in a World Cup qualifier against St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
