Long Island’s Guglielmo Named Top UWS Defender

Following Long Island Rough Riders 2-1 victory over Lancaster Inferno, the team’s keeper Melissa Guglielmo has been named United Women’s Soccer’s East Defensive Player of the Week.

Throughout the season, Guglielmo has been a steady presence in net for Long Island allowing six goals in five starts. This past weekend, the former Dowling College Golden Lion shot-stopper helped her team rebound from that setback, making five saves in the win over Lancaster Sunday that kept Long Island mathematically in the race for the East title and the automatic berth into the UWS National Championship held the weekend of July 30-31.
