Long Islanders Dominate Weekly ECC WSOC Awards

The East Coast Conference women’s soccer weekly honors features several Long Island players each of whom was cited for strong play over the past week.

Leading the way was Molloy College freshman Dana Poetzsch, who scored four goals in two matches for the Lions. The midfielder from Hicksville netted her first career hat-trick and added an assist in a 5-5 draw vs. Georgian Court. She also chipped in with a goal in Molloy’s 6-0 win over Dominican.

Rookie of the Week honors went to NYIT freshman Casey Luongo. The Center Moriches native scored three goals over the past week and has scored seven goals over her past five games. Luongo scored twice in a 3-0 win over Bloomfield and then converted from the spot in the Bears 4-2 win over Daemen.

The weekly ECC honor roll includes:

  • Kristen Breihof, LIU Post (Sr, B, Levittown): Breihof helped LIU Post to a perfect 2-0 week, highlighted by her three assists in a 5-1 victory over conference opponent Roberts Wesleyan. She has recorded four assists on the season and has started and played throughout every contest for the green and gold.
  • Corinna Ferrante, Mercy College (Jr, M, Patchogue): Ferrante had three goals and an assist on the week as the Mavericks went 2-0. The junior opened the week with two goals and an assist against Holy Family before ending the week with a goal against Queens on Saturday.
  • Andrea Huntzinger, LIU Post (Jr, F, Stockholm, Sweden): Huntzinger helped LIU Post to a perfect 2-0 week by tallying two goals and two assists for six points on the week. She recorded a goal and assist in a 3-0 victory over non-conference opponent Pace, and she again added a goal and assist to her efforts in a green and gold win over conference foe Roberts Wesleyan. She boasts 7 goals and 3 assists, good for 17 points, on the season.
  • Dina Simonian, NYIT (Sr, M, Westbury): Simonian produced a hat trick against Daemen to move into a ninth-place tie on NYIT’s all-time goals list with 16. She also added an assist in the Bears’ 3-0 win over Bloomfield earlier in the week.
