For her efforts, the Melville native and current member of the St. John’s University Women’s Soccer team was named the UWS East Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Bellero netted the first-ever goal in UWS history on Saturday, scoring the eventual game-winner in the 16th minute of the match vs. NJCFC. The Half Hollow East High School graduate broke in on goal on a 1 v 1 and beat the Copa goalkeeper with a low shot inside the corner of the net.
She would put the match out of reach in the second half, as her goal in the 68th minute guaranteed the win for the Rough Riders. Last fall, Bellero was named Big East Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week for Sept. 7 after scoring two goals for the Red Storm that included a game-winner over Boston College.
Cailynn Harding of the New England Mutiny was named Defensive Player of the Week in her team’s 3-0 win over New York Magic. The former Central Connecticut State University defender helped break up nearly every attack the Magic had in Mutiny territory and connected her clearances with precision.
Honorable mention honors for Defensive Player of the Week Allyson Baner. Playing as a center back for the Rough Riders, she organized the defense to help to maintain the shutout over NJCFC.
