Carli Lloyd’s two first-half goals were all that Sky Blue FC needed in its 2-1 win over Houston Dash Saturday night at BBVA Stadium.

With both teams missing opportunities to grab the lead in the early stages of the first half, Sky Blue’s breakthrough came in the 26th minute.

Sky Blue’s second goal would come 15 minutes later. Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan sent a ball to Raquel Rodriguez, who was able to get around a Houston defender and send a pass to Lloyd on the left side. Lloyd dribbled at the Dash backline and fired a low shot that beat Houston keeper Jane Campbell.

Houston got a consolation goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time as Kealia Ohai put her shot past a diving Sheridan.

SBFC finished the match with 13 shots, 11 from Lloyd and two from Paige Monaghan. Sheridan was again strong in goal making six saves.

Up next for Sky Blue is a home match against the defending NWSL champions North Carolina Courage on September 7. Game time at Yurcak Field is 3 p.m.
