Following back-to-back wins to start the season for the LIU men’s soccer team, a key cog in the team’s early-season success was honored by the Northeast Conference.
Junior midfielder Chris Capaldo of Smithtown was named the conference men’s soccer Player of the Week. In wins over Old Dominion University and Virginia Commonwealth University, the Smithtown East High School graduate had a goal and an assist.
Capaldo’s goal came in the 56th minute of the Sharks’ 1-0 win over VCU. He also assisted on the game-tying goal in the 82nd minute of LIU’s 2-1 come-from-behind victory over ODU.
Capaldo and his teammates will be back in action on Saturday when they meet St. Joseph’s University at LIU Soccer Park in Brookville. Kickoff is 4 p.m.
