The LIU women’s soccer team begins a new era this fall with the Sharks ranked No. 8 in the Northeast Conference preseason poll.

Eleri Earnshaw’s team is ranked ahead of Wagner College, St. Francis University-Brooklyn and Merrimack College. Central Connecticut State was ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll with St. Francis University and Fairleigh Dickinson ranked second and third respectively.

This season is the first that combines the teams from LIU Post and LIU Brooklyn into one squad playing at the Division I level. In 2018, the LIU Post Pioneers playing in Division II finished the season 14-4-4. The Blackbirds of LIU Brooklyn in Division I finished the 2018 campaign 2-13-3 with Earnshaw at the helm.

As has been the case with LIU Post teams in the past, the Sharks roster this season features several players from Long Island. They include Grace Cagnina, freshman from Lindenhurst; Julia Duffy, senior from Oceanside; Brittany Fazin, junior from Port Jefferson; Samantha Gordon, junior from Amityville; Shab Nasary, sophomore from East Norwich; Sidney Pasquarella, junior from East Northport; Veronica Saager, senior from East Islip; Shakila Sevanan, senior from Kings Park; Emily Tirado, sophomore from Selden; Olivia Wesch, sophomore from Manhasset; and Kelsey Wright, junior from Medford.
