LIU Post freshman Rebecca DeWitt has made the most of her time on the pitch this season, and this past week played a big role in the Pioneers two wins.
The Melville native was named the East Coast Conference Player of the Week after scoring twice and chipping in with an assist. In a 4-0 win over Queens, DeWitt had an assist on the game’s fourth goal scored by Veronica Saager (East Islip). Three days later, DeWitt playing only 35 minutes scored LIU Post’s first and fourth goals in the Pioneers 4-0 win over Caldwell.
In addition, NYIT’s goalkeeper Jessie Sabal was named the ECC Defensive Player of the Week. The Valley Stream native recorded two shutouts this past week to help the Bears extend its winning streak to six games.
Sabal made three saves in each of the two games to. In the Bears’ 1-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas, Sabal made a crucial stop on a penalty kick with just over one minute remaining in the second half to preserve the win. She also had three saves in 2-0 win over Holy Family.
On the Conference Weekly Honor Roll, Hillevi Eklow of LIU Post recorded two shutouts during the 12th-ranked Pioneers’ 2-0 week giving her six clean sheets on the season. In her 180 minutes in goal, the junior turned aside each of the five shots she saw en route to a pair of 4-0 road victories.
Also on the Honor Roll, NYIT’s senior Dina Simonian scored goals in each of the Bears’ two victories, including the game-winner vs. St. Thomas Aquinas, as NYIT ran its winning streak to six matches. Through 12 games, the Westbury native has seven goals and two assists.
