Two goals in less than four minutes midway through the first half was all the offense LIU Post needed as the Pioneers topped Adelphi 3-0 in the NCAA Division II men’s soccer tournament.
With the win, LIU Post (18-0-2) advances to the national quarterfinals where they will face the University of Charleston (W. Va.) on Saturday at Schoenbaum Stadium in Charleston. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
Thursday’s match between the Long Island rivals was scoreless through the first 20 minutes before the Pioneers would break through. In the 23rd minute, junior Charlie Ledula’s blast into the upper left corner of the net gave LIU Post a 1-0. Four minutes later, Harry Pearse would follow with a nearly-identical strike to double the lead.
The Pioneers would put the game out of reach in the 66th minute when a cross from Vittorio Argeri found Lukas Ostermann, who’s 18th goal of the season put LIU Post up 3-0.
LIU Post’s keeper Oliver Hessner Hansen (15-0-2) made six saves in the match and posted his eighth shutout of the season.
