The LIU Post Pioneers placed three of its members on the United Soccer Coaches Men’s Division II All-America teams.
Senior defense Johan Maurtizson of Halmstad, Sweden, and Charlie Ledula, a junior forward from London, England, were named to the first team while their teammate senior midfielder Harry Pearse of Berkshire, England, was named to the second team.
Maurtizson, the ECC Defensive Player of the Year, receives All-America First-Team nods for his efforts on defense. The center back captained a back-line that ranks second in the ECC with 15 goals allowed and 0.86 goals against average. His performance also helped LIU Post shut out seven opponents this past season, two of which came in back-to-back victories in the East Coast Conference Championship.
A member of the 2017 D2CCA All-East Region Second-Team, Pearse earns his first All-America honors following his final collegiate season. Playing mostly as a holding midfielder, Pearse, the workhorse of the team, is first on the team in assists (11), third on the team in goals (5) and points (21).
Ledula, an NSCAA All-America Second Team member last year, claims First-Team nods after scoring 13 of LIU Post’s 53 goals of the season. The ECC First-Team All-Conference member is fourth in the conference in goals and points (27).
In addition, Adelphi’s Toni Soler, a senior midfielder from Valencia, Spain, was named to the First Team. Soler is the fifth player in Adelphi history to earn First Team honors from the national coaching body. He finished the 2017 season with four goals and four assists.
