LIU Post’s Eklow Garners Top ECC Goalkeeping Honors


For the second straight season, LIU Post’s Hillevi Eklow has been named the top goalkeeper in the East Coast Conference.

A native of Väröbacka, Sweden, Eklow was among eight members of the Pioneers women’s soccer team to receive All-ECC recognition. She received the ECC Goalkeeper of the Year award.

The senior netminder posted a 12-3-3 record with a conference-best nine clean sheets. Eklow compiled a 0.81 goals-against average while stopping 82.4-percent of shots that she faced. To close out the regular season, she recorded nearly 500-consecutive scoreless minutes, helping the Pioneers to five-consecutive shutouts.

Joining the LIU Post goalkeeper on the first team was junior midfielder Gabrielle Clark who netted two goals and two assists on the season.

Junior forward Julia Duffy of Oceanside led the Green and Gold second team honorees after ranking third in the ECC with 12 goals. Sophomores Erin O’Connor of Setauket and Samantha Gordon of Amityville, along with senior Alice Schonfeldt also earned second-team accolades, combining for 14 goals and 14 assists.

Freshmen Kendra Oldroyd and Terese Markelund rounded out the Pioneer all-conference. The duo combined for 10 goals and four assists, including five game-winning goals.
