Lionel Messi suffered a tear in his collateral ligament and will be out “seven to eight weeks,” according to published reports on Saturday.
Barcelona officially announced the Argentinian International star’s injury following Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Las Palmas. If the diagnosis is accurate, Messi will return in time for Barca’s match November 21 vs. Real Madrid.
When the world’s greatest football leaves his match early with an injury, it makes news and quickly.
In the 10th minute of Barcelona’s match against Las Palmas, Lionel Messi left with an injury. The club’s Twitter account at around 10 a.m. (U.S. eastern time) tweeted, “Leo Messi took a knock on the knee earlier in the game and cannot continue.”
NBC Sports Pro Soccer Talk reported that Messi was taken to a local hospital but specifics on the injury have not been revealed as of this writing.
