Long Island native Amanda Rooney has been invited to preseason camp by Sky Blue FC as a trialist, the team reported on Monday.
In addition, the NWSL side also said that Kyra Carusa, a 2019 college draft pick, has left camp and returned to Georgetown University. She is currently completing her Master’s Degree in Integrated Marketing Communications.
Rooney, a native of Hicksville, in 2018 signed to play professionally in Europe with Lithuania’s Gintra Universitetas.
In 2016, she closed out her college career in style as a member of USC’s women’s soccer team. The Trojans won the NCAA national title by defeating West Virginia 3-1.
During her youth playing days on Long Island, Rooney played for the LIJSL’s Albertson Elite Fury for eight years and served as team captain. She also competed for Eastern New York ODP for six years and for Region 1 ODP for five years.
Sky Blue will play its second preseason match on Saturday, March 23, against West Virginia University. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Sportika Sports, in Manalapan, New Jersey. On Saturday, March 16, Sky Blue opened its preseason schedule with a 6-0 win over the St. John’s women’s soccer team.
