Long Island native Matteo Ritaccio has signed his first professional contract with Liverpool FC.
The 18-year old is currently a member of the Premier League side’s U18 team coached by Barry Lewtas. The Westbury native arrived on Merseyside in the summer of 2018 from the New York-based academy BW Gottschee.
According to a Liverpool press release announcing Ritaccio’s signing, he was first identified by the Reds as a 13-year old at a United States National Team training camp.
Touted as a tough-tackling and exciting player, Ritaccio started the season in fine form for the U18s but his momentum was brought to a halt by a leg injury. Currently rehabilitating at the Academy in Kirkby, England, he is expected to return to action early in the new year.
