Long Island native Matteo Ritaccio has signed his first professional contract with Liverpool FC

The 18-year old is currently a member of the Premier League side’s U18 team coached by Barry Lewtas. The Westbury native arrived on Merseyside in the summer of 2018 from the New York-based academy BW Gottschee

According to a Liverpool press release announcing Ritaccio’s signing, he was first identified by the Reds as a 13-year old at a United States National Team training camp.

Touted as a tough-tackling and exciting player, Ritaccio started the season in fine form for the U18s but his momentum was brought to a halt by a leg injury. Currently rehabilitating at the Academy in Kirkby, England, he is expected to return to action early in the new year.

Ritaccio has two brothers currently playing college soccer in the U.S. Giraldo is a senior at SUNY Oneonta and Carlo is a sophomore at the University of Akron
