One goal was all that was needed and that goal for Hofstra’s men’s soccer team came from a Long Island connection.

A goal from sophomore Matthew Vowinkel in the 52nd proved to be the game-winner as the Pride defeated Northeastern 1-0. With the win in the Colonial Athletic Association’s quarterfinals, Hofstra advances to play UNCW on Friday in Harrisonburg, VA.

On the goal sophomore Storm Strongin of Hicksville sent a pass into the box where Vowinkel of New Hyde Park was able to head the ball past Huskies keeper Chandler Cree.

Senior keeper Alex Ashton made four saves to earn his ninth clean sheet of the season and the team’s 11th.
