Goals: SBFC: 83’ Raquel Rodriguez (assist Mandy Freeman)

Overview: After a draw and a loss in its first two matches of the 2017 NWSL season, Sky Blue FC opened the home portion of its schedule with a one-goal win. Scoreless through the first 80 minutes, Sky Blue took the lead with 8 minutes left in regulation time on a goal from Costa Rica international Raquel Rodriguez. Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan earned her first professional clean sheet.

Quotable:

Sky Blue FC Head Coach Christy Holly…

“This game was more about the win than it was about the performance. We stressed from the very start that we wanted to set the tone for the rest of the season tonight. We are very fortunate to have such fantastic fans, and we wanted to give them something to be excited about. Getting the clean sheet was something that was very important to us. On the back line, we had three first-year and two second-year players, and each of them showed a tremendous level of maturity.”

What’s next:

Sky Blue FC (1-1-1, 4 pts.) will hit the road for the short trip to Washington to play the Spirit. The match on Saturday, May 6, will kickoff at 7 p.m.
