New York City FC 1
Orlando City SC 2
• Goals: NYCFC: 74’ David Villa (assist Maxi Moralez); OCSC: 31’ Cyle Larin (assist Scott Sutter, Carlos Rivas), 51’ Cyle Larin (Assist Danny Toia)
• Overview: New York City FC should do what it can get Cyle Larin on its roster. The Orlando City star has a knack for playing on the big stage of New York, having scored nine goals in seven games vs. the Citizens including six tallies in four matches at Yankee Stadium. He also has four goals vs. New York Red Bulls.
New York City also missed an opportunity to avenge their season opening loss at Orlando and grabbed three points that would have pulled them even with Red Bulls and Columbus Crew. But the first home loss on the season dropped NYC to (3-1-3, 10 pts.) on the season.
NYCFC Head Coach Patrick Vieira…
“I think you have to give (Larin) a lot of credit because he was at the right place at the right time, and the way he finished was really good. I’m not surprised at all because we knew if he had the chance and he was in the box he would finish. More than the goal, I think is the situations we gave them to finish those chances. I think when you look at the first goal, we weren’t there to defend and that’s important for us to win. We conceded two goals because we defended badly.”
Thomas McNamara, NYCFC…
“I thought we did pretty well for the most part, but there were a couple of key moments defensively, especially regarding myself, that we lost 1v1 and put the team in very difficult positions and if you’re allowing service into Cyle Larin, more likely than not he’s going to get goals.”
• What’s next:
New York City hit the road, heading to Mapfre Stadium to face Eastern Conference leading Columbus Crew, which is coming off a 2-0 defeat at the hands of New York Red Bulls.
