The 2020 roster for Sky Blue FC continues to fill in as the NWSL side has signed defender Estelle Johnson to a one-year contract with an option.

Johnson joined Sky Blue in 2019 in a trade with the Washington Spirit. The 31-year old played in her 100th league game in July against the Houston Dash. She finished the season with 15 appearances, all starts.

“I am delighted to have Estelle continue to play for Sky Blue,” said Freya Coombe, the team’s head coach. “She is a solid defender that brings great experience and leadership to the team. She will be key to the success of the team this season.”

Johnson began her professional career in Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS), playing for the Philadelphia Independence from 2010 to 2012 before heading over to Australia to play for Sydney FC from 2011 to 2012.

In 2013, she joined the Western New York Flash, where she accumulated 22 appearances with the 2013 NWSL Championship runner ups. After a brief break in 2014, Johnson returned to the NWSL in 2015 with the Washington Spirit before joining Sky Blue FC.

She earned her first international cap with Cameroon in 2019. Johnson participated in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, playing the full 90 minutes Cameroon’s four matches.
