The injury bug has again bitten New York City FC with its victim this time being defender Ronald Matarrita.
Just days before the Citizen’s second meeting of the 2017 season with Orlando City SC, the team announced that Matarrita would be out 4-6 weeks after sustaining a high ankle sprain in training.
Matarrita will miss time following the team’s 2-0 win over Philadelphia Union where after he was named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Week. He joins Khiry Shelton on the injury list after the winger suffered a hamstring strain at Talen Energy Stadium.
Team officials are hopeful that Matarrita and Shelton will be available when New York City heads west to meet Real Salt Lake on May 17.
