Hofstra’s Ashton, Rieper Net CAA Honors

Two members of the Hofstra men’s soccer team were named Players of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association.

Keeper Alex Ashton was named Defensive Player of the Week while his teammate, defender Frederik Rieper was named Rookie of the Week.

Ashton picked up where he left off last season, recording two shutouts in Hofstra’s wins over Fordham and UMBC. The native of Telford, England, made six saves in the Pride’s season-opening win over Fordham before making one save against UMBC. With 16 career shutouts, Ashton moved into a tie for third place on the Hofstra all-time list.

In Hofstra’s 1-0 win at UMBC, Rieper tallied the game’s lone goal in the 57th minute off of a corner kick. Starting at center back for the Pride, the Aarhus, Denmark-native played a key role in a pair of shutout victories.

Joining Ashton and Rieper receiving weekly CAA honors was Christian Lauenborg of Elon who was named Offensive Player of the Week.
