Throughout the season, Hofstra women’s soccer team dominated play in the Colonial Athletic Association and finished the season a perfect 9-0 in CAA play.
Now, the regular season CAA champions are receiving more honors, taking three of four postseason conference awards. Senior Kristin Desmond was named conference Player of the Year, junior Madeline Anderson was named Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Simon Riddiough was selected CAA Coach of the Year.
Desmond and Anderson were also named to the All-CAA First Team, with senior defender Kelly Gerdes (Wantagh) on the second team along with freshman midfielder Bella Richards. The conference All-Rookie Team also includes Richard and midfielder Lucy Porter.
Desmond of East Northport finished the regular season with nine goals and 21 total points. Anderson, a native of Westbury, was an integral part of Hofstra’s defensive unit that had 10 clean sheets and a regular season goals-against-average of 0.64. She also chipped in on the offensive side of the ball with two goals and an assist.
A unanimous choice for conference Coach of the Year, Riddiough led the program to 9-0 conference record becoming only the fifth team in CAA history to finish the season unbeaten/untied. One of those teams was the 2010 Pride, coached by Riddiough, which finished that season 11-0.
