Hofstra’s women’s soccer team won its third straight game on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Columbia University at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

The defending Colonial Athletic Association champions are now 5-3-0 on the season.

Junior Lucy Shepherd scored the game’s only goal in the 74th minute with her second tally of the 2019 campaign.

On the play that led to the goal, sophomore Miri Taylor’s shot was blocked by a Lions defender. Junior Lucy Porter would gain possession of the ball and find Shepherd at the penalty spot. Shepherd’s off-balance strike would find its way through the legs of Columbia goalkeeper Liz Matei.

In the 87th minute, it appeared as if Columbia leveled the match off a corner kick. But the play was ruled offside.

Freshman keeper Skylar Kuzmich won for the fifth time this season and made one save to earn her second clean sheet of 2019.

Hofstra will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule at the University of Pennsylvania on Friday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
