Hofstra University’s women’s soccer team is getting some recognition nationally as the team received two votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Preseason Top 25 Poll that was released Tuesday night.
The Price finished the 2015 season with a 13-6-2 record and tied for the Colonial Athletic Association regular season championship, earning the top seed and the right to host the CAA Tournament. The team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, marking its fourth appearance under Head Coach Simon Riddiough.
Leah Galton was named CAA Player of the Year for the third consecutive season and earned recognition as an NSCAA Second-Team All-American. Four other members of the Pride were All-CAA selections, including Jill Mulholland‘s first-team nod.
Hofstra was among a group of 18 teams who also received consideration for for the Top-25. Reigning national champion Penn State was ranked No. 2. The Pride will face the Nittany Lions on Aug. 21 in the Penn State Invitational. Also in the Top-5 were Florida State (1), Duke (3), Virginia (4) and Stanford (5).
Hofstra opens its season on Aug. 19 with a tilt against Buffalo in the Penn State tournament. Boston University will make the trip to Hempstead for the home opener at 7 p.m. on Aug. 25.
