Hofstra’s women’s soccer team will close out the home portion of its schedule on Sunday in a match that could go a long way in deciding which team will win the regular-season Colonial Athletic Association title.
The Pride will welcome the University of North Carolina/Wilmington to Hofstra Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is 1 p.m. Hofstra with a conference record of 5-0-1 and UNCW at 5-1-0, currently occupy first and second place respectively in the conference. Both teams have also secured spots in the CAA postseason tournament.
Since losing to Rutgers 4-1 on September 5, Hofstra is unbeaten over its past 10 games. The only blemish is a 2-2 draw with Northeastern on October 3.
Through its first 15 games, Hofstra has outscored its opponents 34-22 while also outshooting the opposition 269-131 (118-59 on goal).
On offense, the quartet of Lucy Porter, Miri Taylor, Lucy Shepherd and Sabrina Bryan each have been heavily involved in the Pride’s goal-scoring efforts throughout the season. Porter leads the team with 12 goals and 28 points, Taylor and Bryan are second in goals with six each and Shepherd leads the team with eight assists.
In goal, freshman Skylar Kuzmich has solidified her spot on the team appearing in all 15 matches playing 1,346 minutes. She has three clean sheets with 1.47 goals against average.
UNCW travels to Long Island with a five-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 11-0 in that span. Goalkeeper Sydney Schneider has not allowed a goal in more than 450 minutes.
