Hofstra’s women’s soccer team came into the 2019 season as the favorites to win the Colonial Athletic Association.
And the Pride did not disappoint, securing the CAA regular-season title with a 2-1 win over William & Mary Sunday at Martin Family Stadium in Williamsburg, Va.
Hofstra (13-3-2 overall, 7-0-2 CAA) is the top seed in the conference Women’s Soccer Championship. On Sunday, November 3, the Pride will host a semi-final and will face the winner of the Northeastern/Elon game, which will be played November 1 at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
Should Hofstra advance, the conference final would be played in Hempstead on November 9.
In the final match of the regular season against William & Mary, the visitors from Long Island grabbed the lead in the 21st minute. After intercepting a pass near midfield, Lucy Porter connected with Sabrina Bryan who would find the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season.
William & Mary would draw level in the 39th minute through a Hofstra own-goal.
Four minutes into the second half, the Pride would regain the lead for good as Miri Taylor scored her ninth of the season to put Hofstra ahead 2-1.
Skylar Kuzmich made one save to earn her 13th win of the season.
- Hofstra captured the No. 1 seed and CAA regular-season championship for the second time in the past three seasons and fourth time overall during head coach Simon Riddiough’s tenure.
- The Pride posted also finished the regular season unbeaten in conference play for the second time in three seasons and the third during the Riddiough Era.
- Porter has 35 points on the year, which is tied for fourth all-time in a single season with Carlene Wawrzonek who achieved the feat in 1994.
