Hofstra’s women’s soccer team will open the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament on Long Island as the Pride will welcome Loyola University Chicago to Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The opening-round match is set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Pride (15-3-2, 7-0-2 CAA) earned the Colonial Athletic Association’s automatic bid to the Tournament following its 5-1 win over James Madison Saturday. This is the third-straight season Hofstra won the conference title and sixth overall.
This year’s appearance in the tournament is the eighth in program history and fourth over the past five seasons. In 2018, Hofstra defeated No. 22 Boston College 4-1 in the first round of the tournament before falling 6-0 to No. 23 Wisconsin.
Loyola University Chicago (14-4-1, 7-0-0 MVC) earned its spot in the NCAAs with its 2-0 win over Illinois State to win the Missouri Valley Conference title.
Ninth-year head coach Barry Bimbi’s team brings a program-record 12-game win streak into the tournament. Loyola, which is in search of its first NCAA Tournament win in program history, features eight All-MVC honorees, led by reigning Valley Defensive Player of the Year Madison Laudeman.
