High school soccer teams from Half Hollow Hills East and Northport are the two Long Island squads ranked in national polls from United Soccer Coaches.
In the boys poll released September 19, Half Hollow Hills East enters the Top-25 at No. 21. Northport entered the girls poll also released September 19 for the first time this season at No. 22.
Hills East in the week leading into the poll defeated Copiague 5-0 and Smithtown West 1-0 but lost to Huntington 1-0. Half Hollow Hills East was also ranked No. 3 in Region 2 and was joined by St. Anthony’s at No. 8 in the region.
The Northport girls team in the week of the poll had three wins; 6-0 over Bay Shore, Connetquot 7-1 and Lindenhurst 7-0. Through the first seven games of the season, Northport outscored its opponents 41-2 in compiling a 7-0 record.
Four Long Island girls soccer teams are ranked in Region 2. They are No. 4 Northport, No. 5 Islip, No. 6 St. Anthony’s and No. 14 Massapequa.
