After winning the Long Island Cup last year, the HBC Thunder of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) added to their growing trophy case by topping the Korabi Eagles 04 of the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL), 6-0, in the Boys-Under-11 Arch Capital Group Cup final.
The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) championship game was played at Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview on June 11.
“We played a great team game,” said Brian Rosenberg, HBC coach. “Great possession, control and ball movement. We were first to the ball and played with great speed.”
Ian Alper scored two goals and Andre Josaphat, Jackson Pam, Zachary Wernick and Jeffrey Wilson scored one each to pace HBC. Keeper Brian Rosenberg earned the clean sheet.
Korabi received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Now living in Kentucky, Mr. Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the LIJSL.
