Two Long Island girls high school soccer players have been named to the Dominican Republic’s U-20 team for the upcoming CONCACAF Women’s U-20 championship.
Mia Asenjo and Kristina Garcia are on the 20 player roster for the tournament that will be held in the Dominican Republic from February 22 to March 8.
Asenjo plays her high school ball at Valley Stream South and plays her club ball with SUSA FC. She will play her college ball at the University of Central Florida.
Garcia attends Great Neck South High School and plays her club ball with the East Meadow Soccer Club. She will be staying close to home for college and will attend Stony Brook University.
The Dominican Republic is in Group C along with the United States, Cuba and Honduras. The DR will open the tournament on Saturday, February 22 against Honduras; will play the United States on Monday, February 24; and close out group play against Cuba on Wednesday, February 26.
