Sophomore Christina Gagliardi’s hat-trick led St. Joseph’s College to a 10-0 win over Yeshiva University in Skyline Conference women’s soccer action.
In addition, the three goals from the Ronkonkoma native and graduate of Sachem North High School gives Gagliardi 18 goals on the season, setting a new St. Joseph’s single-season goalscoring record. She entered the Friday morning match tied with Angie Merante (2007) and Chelsea Bellini (2015) for most goals in a single-season. In addition, her 60 career points move Gagliardi into second all-time in school history.
Gagliardi’s record-breaking goal came in the 36th minute when she redirected senior Kristin Carroll‘s (Patchogue) cross from the left in the 36th minute to extend SJC’s lead to 3-0. Gagliardi would later add goals in the 54th and 57th minutes.
On the season-to-date, Gagliardi has scored at least two goals in five matches including a five goal in an 8-1 win over Brooklyn on September 9.
Junior Leah Vasquez (Holbrook) opened the scoring in the fifth minute and Carroll, who netted her seventh goal of the season, doubled the lead in the 12th minute.
Two minutes after Gagliardi’s first goal, senior Megan Locke (Hicksville) scored her first-career goal when she beat the Yeshiva keeper from outside of the box.
Carroll made it 6-0 less than one minute into the second half before Gagliardi’s consecutive marks put the guests up 8-0. Junior Rebecca Walsh (Nesconset) and freshman Carly Credidio (Farmingville) wrapped up the scoring with goals in the 62nd and 73rd minutes, respectively.
SJC keeper Juliana Cintron Leonardo (Riverhead) played all 90 minutes and made four saves in a match that saw her side outshoot its opponent 36-6. Of those 36 shots, Gagliardi was credited with 15.
