For the 10th time in the past 11 seasons, Farmingdale State is the top women’s soccer team in the Skyline Conference.
On Saturday, the No. 2 Rams defeated No. 1 Mount Saint Mary College 1-0 in Newburgh, N.Y., to claim the Skyline Conference Championship. With the win, Farmingdale State also earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship.
The game’s only goal came in the 15th minutes when Farmingdale State freshman forward Miranda Ozimek (Centerport) received a through pass from freshman midfielder Cailyn Demarinis (Deer Park) and shot it past Knights senior goalkeeper Mary Riley to put the Rams ahead 1-0.
Mount Saint Mary would not get a shot on Farmingdale State goalkeeper Daniella Ford (Elmont, N.Y.) until 3 minutes into the second half. For the game, the Rams outshot Mount Saint Mary 11-4 with Ford making two saves for the clean sheet.
Farmingdale State junior midfielder Alyssa Parrotta (Centereach) was named the Championship’s Most Outstanding Player after her three-point performance in the semifinals against Mount Saint Vincent.
