Farmingdale State sophomore forward Jovanni Parkinson (Wyandanch) scored the game’s only goal early in the second half to lead the Rams to a 1-0 victory over St. Joseph’s-LI in the First Round of the Skyline Conference Men’s Soccer Championship.

After a scoreless first half, FSU (10-7) broke the 0-0 tie with 33:26 left in the match as Parkinson tapped in a cross from Tobi Ojuade’s (Rockville Centre).

With 11:17 remaining, St. Joe’s-LI had a potential game-tying shot from 15 yards out but a diving stop by Rams defender Gerard Farrell (Floral Park) kept the Rams ahead, 1-0. Less than a minute later, a diving save by sophomore goalkeeper Lucas Mallia (Greenlawn) on a header by the Golden Eagles secured the one-goal FSC advantage.

Mallia stopped six shots, while senior Avery Gomez (Bay Shore) had five saves for the St. Joseph’s-LI.

FSC will now travel to face top-seeded Merchant Marine in the semifinals on Wednesday, November, at 4 p.m.
