Farmingdale State opened postseason play with a high-flying performance as the Rams defeated Sarah Lawrence 8-1 on Wednesday.
With the win in the Skyline Conference Women’s Soccer Championship semi-final, Farmingdale State (16-3-2) will now host Mount Saint Mary in the Skyline Finals on Saturday. Kickoff time is 1 p.m. The winner will earn the Skyline Conference automatic bid into the 2018 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship.
During the match played on the afternoon of Halloween, the treats were aplenty for the Rams. Sophomore midfielder Meagan Murdocco (North Babylon) scored 55 seconds into the game off a feed from sophomore midfielders Brittney Starzee (Babylon) and Cailyn Demarinis (Deer Park) to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Murdocco scored her second goal of the game in the 12th minute to put the Rams ahead 2-0. Senior midfielder Allison Khare (Deer Park) scored an unassisted goal to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the 41st-minute sophomore midfielder Alexandra Johnson (Commack) would get on the end of a cross from Edasia Martinez (Brentwood) to make it 4-0. Farmingdale State held a 23-0 shot advantage heading to halftime.
The Rams goal-scoring barrage would be temporarily put on hold until the 69th minute. Khare scored her second of the game off the pass from junior defender Brenda Vargas (Brentwood). And two minutes later, senior midfielder Rae-Anne Guglielmo (West Babylon) scored an unassisted goal to increase the lead to six.
FSC junior Daniella Ford (Elmont) recorded her school record 16th win in goal after playing 75 minutes.
