Farmingdale State MSOC Top Brooklyn To Open Home Slate

Farmingdale State’s men’s soccer team kicked off the home portion of its 2018 schedule with a 3-0 win over Brooklyn College on Wednesday.

In the 31st minute, the Rams (1-1) broke the scoreless tie on an unassisted goal from sophomore midfielder Alex Castano of Valley Stream. Farmingdale State controlled the first half and took a one-goal lead into the break after outshooting Brooklyn 11-3 and holding a 4-1 corner kick advantage.

Early in the second half, Michael Gino of Wantagh would extend the Rams lead to 2-0 as he put away a rebound off the shot from junior midfielder Giovanni Lonetti of Levittown.

The green and white increased its lead to 3-0 in the 63rd minute on a goal from sophomore forward Kyle Darden of Floral Park as senior defender Kyle Gully of North Babylon earned the assist. Farmingdale State limited the Bulldogs to three shots and no goals over the final 27:55 to cap off the win.

Rams senior goalkeeper Scott Flores of Commack made seven saves to record his first career clean sheet.

Farmingdale State next will host FDU-Florham in a non-conference game on Saturday at 12 p.m.
