ENYYSA Parent Education Series Part IV: Chris Wingert

Chris_WingertThe Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) continues its video series focused on educating soccer parents with an interview with longtime Major League Soccer star and Long Island native Chris Wingert.

Wingert grew up in Babylon and played with Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) clubs in North Babylon, Deer Park and Commack and for Eastern New York’s Olympic Development Program (ODP). A graduate of St. John the Baptist High School in West Islip, Wingert won state titles in 1996 and 1998. He would then lead St. John’s University to the national final in 2003. That same year, Wingert won the Hermann Trophy as the nation’s top collegiate men’s soccer player.

His MLS career has seen the 33 year old play for Columbus Crew, Colorado Rapids, NYCFC and two stints with Real Salt Lake, where he now plies his trade.

“I’m just happy to still be playing (professionally),” Wingert said. “I love the game and I feel that I will be involved with it for the rest of my life.”
