It was a big week of honors for Molloy College’s soccer teams, led by Jackie Carty being named East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Carty (East Islip) made seven saves in a 4-0 win over Queens, which was her second clean sheet of the season. In the Lions 1-0 loss to Caldwell, she made nine saves and currently ranks third in the conference with 30 saves.
Her teammate, Dana Poetzsch (Hicksville) earned a spot on the conference’s weekly Honor Roll. She scored two goals in the Lions’ 4-0 win over Queens. In that match vs. Queens, Poetzsch increased Molloy’s lead to 2-0 in the 26th minute and then netted a penalty kick in the 46th minute to make it 3-0. It was her second multi-goal match of the season. The freshman also led the Lions with five shots and four shots on goal and is tied for second in the ECC in both goals (four) and points (eight).
Carnwath tallied a hat trick in the Lions’ 5-4 win over Queens. The Fleet, England, native opened the scoring with a goal in the 14th minute. He then added two insurance tallies in the 62nd and 68th minute to put Molloy up 4-2 and 5-2, respectively.
Massey netted two goals in Saturday’s victory. The junior put the Lions ahead, 2-1, in the 45th minute, and then put the maroon and white up ahead again, 3-2, on a penalty kick goal in the 61st minute. The Warrington, England, native leads the Lions with six goals in five games.
